Engagement Sessions

A newer trend that you may have seen while pouring over pins on Pinterest are photos from engagement photo shoots. The idea of taking photos before the wedding with your beau originated from trying to photograph the actual proposal. (On a side note, this is an awesome idea and you can catch the post on later) Now with the expansion and popularity of Facebook and Instagram, it's so much easier to share photos with friends and family.

Pre-wedding or engagement sessions are an excellent way to get to know your wedding photographer. It also helps you feel more at ease in front of the camera.

Some tips for your engagement session

-Book one 8-10 months before your wedding. This not only gives your photographer time to edit images but also will give you time to use those images for your save the dates which should be sent.

-Pretend that it's a date. It may feel awkward at first but you'll hardly notic your photographer and that 3 hours will have gone by. My favorite engagement session was one that we did at an arcade on the Jersey Shore boardwalk. So cute!

-Choose a meaningful spot. It'll help you relax.

-Wear comfortable clothes. You may be climbing around things, laying on the ground, getting into awkward positions.

-Try on your outfits before the day of your engagement session and have your friends help you. Better yet, ask if you can send some pics to your photographer for approval. They would be happy to help you pick something thats good for the camera.

-Make sure your clothes are clean and pressed. Driving to your engagement session location may wrinkle your clothes, so plan accordingly. The flash picks up every piece of lint and wrinkle.

-Choose neutrals, pastels, muted colors. No, you don't have to match. Just no "hot" colors, like magenta. Trust me on this one. Cameras do not like hot pink.

-Feel free to bring some props or have activities planned that are meaningful (or useful) to you both. For example bring a sign with the date for your "Save the Dates".

Most of all HAVE FUN!
